Led by Cambridge-based artist Anna Brownsted, violinist Stephane Crayton and Bettina Varwig, this event explored some of the material and bodily dimensions of music making, from a historical perspective and in live performance now. We focused in particular on music’s capacity to induce as well as alleviate pain.

Participants were invited to experiment with different multisensory modes of listening: feeling breath; tasting musical sweetness; feeling the softness of musical harmony through your feet and hands.
